A very humble, rustic lady with a rural background and an unassuming attitude was how one described Smt. Velammal when they met her for the first time. But this frail lady, with her conviction and determination, inspired society and transformed it through her devoted son, Shri M.V. Muthuramalingam — much like Jeeja Bai influenced Chatrapati Shivaji centuries ago.
Her philosophy was quite simple. She used to say, “You take care of the society and the society will reciprocate. You are not in isolation, nor is your family — it is all a part of the society, and the growth is interdependent.”

In the 21st century, we introduced a course of study that is steadily paving the way to a whole new type of education, with a special focus on three major genres of learning: Reasoning, Psychomotor, and Emotional Learning.
To fulfil these objectives, Velammal provides a balanced education between syllabus, curriculum, books, and Extra Curricular Activities, and we firmly believe it is our responsibility to enable the child in our care to develop as a whole.

From schools and colleges to competitive coaching institutions and research centres, Velammal has grown into an ecosystem that not only imparts knowledge but also nurtures leadership, innovation, and social responsibility.
Sown by Mr. M.V. Muthuramalingam, a visionary who believed education could uplift families and communities. The first Velammal school opened in Mogappair, Chennai, with just 183 students — named in memory of his mother, Smt. Velammal, symbolising nurturing, guidance, and strength. It was built on three unwavering principles:
